II - The gap

Why this building

The people who start hard companies are usually young, usually short of money, and usually already building something in a room that is too small for it. What stops them is rarely the idea.

It is having nowhere to put the machine, and nobody two metres away who has already solved the thing they are stuck on. Ursprung 53 is one building against both — enough space to work in, and enough people in it that the answer is often already in the room.

III - The house

The floors

Three floors, three rooms each, in a building that already stands. The ground floor belongs to everyone in the house — desks nobody owns, a kitchen, and a room that clears for an evening. The middle floor holds the two organisations that run the place, plus a studio anyone can book. The top floor is let, whole, to three teams. North is to the right on every plan.
